Fabien and Lori Jagoo are hosting their 4th annual barbecue fundraiser in Bright's Grove for Cystic Fibrosis later this month.
Along with managing a co-operaters Insurance office in Sarnia, he and his wife have three children together and in recent years have become avid fundraisers and proponents of research into cystic fibrosis.
The Jagoo Family started their annual barbecue fundraiser a few years ago soon after learning that all three of their children were diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a recessive genetic disorder affecting most critically the lungs, and also the pancreas, liver, and intestine.
While there are no cures for cystic fibrosis there are several costly treatment methods, and those with the disease have a reduced life expectancy.
It’s normally unheard of for all of the children in one family to be affected by this disease.
Experts say that fundraising for research is important because "money buys science and science buys life."
Jagoo said the exhaustive treatment that his children undergo involves a lot of medications and many trips to London.
The annual barbecue fundraiser has raised more than $65,000 over the past three years.
This year's barbecue is planned for Sep. 21 from noon to 7 p.m. at Foodland in Bright's Grove located at 2600 New London Road.
In June, Jagoo and his wife organized a Duc D'Orleans Cruise for a Cure on the St. Clair River. It was an evening party cruise geared toward grade 7 and 8 aged young people that featured music and dancing.
Jagoo got the idea of the cruise fundraiser last year after he did several graduations on the Duc and saw how much fun the young people had on it.
He and his wife have a desire to establish a charitable foundation to help families pay for percussion vests used in the treatment of cystic fibrosis.
Each vest comes with a hefty price tag of $15,000, an amount that would be a financial challenge for most families, but for Jagoo and his wife with three children affected by the disease the price could be as much as $50,000.
The annual barbecue is sponsored by Jagoo’s insurance agency, the co-operators, Foodland in Bright’s Grove and Remedy’s RX drug store.
