Area beaches clear for swimming
Feature, Lambton County — By JD Booth on August 22, 2012 at 3:27 pmIt's been a good summer so far when it comes to the quality of water at Lambton County's beaches, with the latest testing by Lambton County's Community Health Services department coming back clear.
All beaches tested, including Grand Bend (North and South beach), Highland Glen, Bright's Grove (including Mike Weir Park), Canatara Park, Pinery Provincial Park, and Ipperwash Main beach, were green lighted.
While no sampling occurs along the St. Clair River, a caution sign advising high bacterial levels following heavy rainfall has been permanently placed at Branton Cundick Park and Brander Park.
Swimmers are reminded that following heavy rainfall, the water at area beaches may be temporarily polluted for up to 48 hours. Also, if the water has become cloudy due to wave activity, bacteria from the bottom may become suspended and increase the risk of illness.
