Area lakeshore beaches given the green light
Lambton County, Where we live — By JD Booth on June 17, 2011 at 1:41 pmLambton's Medical Officer of Health advises that no beaches sampled on Lake Huron have been posted this week due to high bacteria levels.
Beaches sampled included Grand Bend, (North Beach) Grand Bend ,(South Beach) Highland Glen, Bright’s Grove, (including Mike Weir Park) Canatara Park, Pinery Provincial Park, and Ipperwash Main Beach
While no sampling occurs along the St. Clair River, a caution sign advising high bacterial levels following heavy rainfall has been permanently placed at:Branton Cundick Park, near Sombra and Brander Park, near Port Lambton.
Community Health officials say that following heavy rainfall, the water at area beaches may be temporarily polluted for up to 48 hours. And, if the water has become cloudy due to wave activity, bacteria from the bottom may become suspended and increase the risk of illness.
