Arrest on Walpole Island nets drugs and weapons

A 46 year old Walpole Island male is facing drug and weapon charges following a grow operation discovery at a Walpole Island residence on Sunday evening.

Officers from the Walpole Island Police Service were attempting to apprehend a wanted male on Tecumseh Road at about 6 pm last evening when during the investigation numerous suspected marijuana plants at various stages of growth were discovered.

Members of the Walpole Island Police Service located and seized 226 suspected marijuana plants, 11 firearms and ammunition.

Police says the value of the drug is nearly $250,000.

The name of the suspect has not been released.

He faces two counts of possession of a controlled substance as well as one count each of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, obstructing police, unauthorized possession of a firearm and careless storage of firearms.
