Big Sisters of Sarnia-Lambton is giving you a day all to yourself

Big Sisters of Sarnia-Lambton has teamed up with CCI Studios of Sarnia to create a unique fundraising campaign to ensure girls in our area have access to essential mentoring programs.

For a donation of $100, you can choose any day of 2011 for your own on to post a birthday, anniversary, memorial or anything else you want to celebrate on your specific day.

"It's a grassroots fundraising initiative," said CCI Studios president Scott Palko during a recent kickoff at the Big Sisters office in the Dow Centre for Youth.

He said nearly 70 cents of each dollar raised goes directly to Big Sister programs, with the remainder split between salaries, rent, office expenses, publicity and training.

Palko said about 20 days have already been sold and those that buy a day in 2011 will have first right of refusal for that day in subsequent years.

He said the launch of the initiative is "fortunate timing" for those looking for something a little different to give as a gift this Christmas.

Meantime, the executive director of Big Sisters of Sarnia-Lambton says about 50 local girls are currently on a waiting list for mentoring programs.

Kathy Alexander says the new program will no doubt make a difference to the guidance of girls in the Sarnia region.
