Boxing Day fire in Sarnia leaves several homeless

Damage is extensive following a rooming house fire in the 100 block of Brock Street North on Boxing Day. Some 19 firefighters from four stations arrived just after 10 a.m. to find flames shooting from some of the windows of the two-storey brick building.

One tenant had to be rescued from the second floor by fireighters using a ladder.

"The fire is believed to have started in the basement area; however an exact cause has not been identified," said Public Education Officer Tom Marshall.

He said one tenant was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
