Captain Kidd Days back for 27th annual run, three days of ramped up festival fun for the whole family

A lot of festivals make the boast of being bigger and better than in years past, but not many of them really deliver like this year's annual Captain Kidd Days, the 27th to be exact, in Corunna – it’s truly bigger and better with something for everyone.
“This year’s Captain Kidd has had everything ramped up again,” said event organizer Geoff Dale. “We have a full weekend of events and fun for both adults and children.”
Once again, this year’s festival theme is “Putting the Kidd back in Captain Kidd.”
That’s another significant change or upgrade if you will; the fact that everything going on this year along with 10 bands slated to perform over two days has transformed what was once a community event into another burgeoning summer festival.
“One of the main things that have been upped is that we now are having a mini festival for music,” said Dale.
An exciting highlight of this year’s Captain Kidd Days is the Miss Teen Corunna and Little Miss Teen Corunna pageants, both sponsored by Fringe Beauty Studio, that’s slated for Friday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. The pageant will start with an introduction of each contestant followed by a talent contest, question and final walk.
The Kids Zone has also been ramped up this year featuring 4 inflatable areas and includes face painting, a children’s magician starting at noon on Saturday, and another round of the best dressed pirate contest. Organizers noted the parade is “as big as it has ever been” and the ball tournament has 12 teams and great prizes sponsored by Molson’s.
“The event has always been about giving back to the community of Corunna, and to ensure that the children are first and foremost with the event. Our well rounded schedule of events I hope indicates that,” said Dale.
The live music this year, slated for Friday and Saturday nights, includes an eclectic lineup and caters to all musical tastes.
Friday night, organizers said, has a real country vibe to it, in an effort to bring some more and new faces out, and will be headlined by local band Scott Manery and the Barnburners. Friday’s bill also features the Stacey Zegers Band, Jets to Ground, a phenomenal band out of the Burlington area that does both covers and originals, and local band Scotch Prophets, a fantastic and well established band in their own right.
Saturday night‘s band lineup consists of 6 sensational acts including Serena Pryne and the Mandevilles, Killin Time Band, Kristin Nicholls Band and Brooke Nicholls. The final evening of music will be headlined by two great and hugely popular bands, Two Crown King and StereoKid, both of which most recently rocked the Get The Ball Rolling fundraiser on Jun. 9 at Stokes by the Bay.
