If you’re a fan of Food Network Canada, then Lynn Crawford is a familiar face to you. In her wildly popular show Pitchin' In, currently in its third successful season, the celebrated celebrity chef visits various food producers across Canada, learning how they work, and challenging herself to find the freshest and best ingredients that this great nation has to offer. It was only natural that she would want to stop by Point Edward's own Purdy Fisheries.
The local business will be featured on an upcoming episode of Pitchin' In that will air this week on Monday, Jan. 16, first at 7:30 p.m. then again at 11:30 p.m.
Crawford, the veteran of the Restaurant Makeover and Iron Chef TV shows, spent four days at Purdy's last May, learning what makes the firm tick, and witnessing firsthand exactly why this local family business has been around for more than a century
According to Stephanie Purdy, a vice-president at the eponymous enterprise, Crawford was very genuine and spent much of her time working alongside the employees, including shovelling snow, and learning first-hand (and hands-on) how the processing plant works.
Crawford culminated her visit by preparing a scrumptious meal using local pickerel, featured in fiddlehead soup with a pickerel quenelle and asparagus slaw and a mushroom-crested pickerel with a sweet pea risotto. She topped it off with a lemon tart with gingered rhubarb and white chocolate shavings.
Monday's show is expected to be a classic, entertaining episode of Pitchin' In—and a great chance to show the rest of Canada why Sarnia-Lambton and Point Edward are world-class destinations when it comes to culinary fish.
Catch the show Monday, Jan. 16, on the Food Network (Cogeco channel 48, Bell ExpressVu 603) airing at 7:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. The episode can also be viewed on the Food Network website.
