English, Doug, (March 21, 2012)
Obituaries — By JD Booth on March 26, 2012 at 6:12 pmDoug died peacefully on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s which he faced with grace and fortitude. Doug lived each day with zest, neither regretting the past nor fearing the future. He lived his life according to The Scouting Motto “ Do Your Best”. His love of competition came to the fore in swim events, on the basketball court, on the golf course and at the bridge table.
After completing his Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Manitoba, Doug worked in marketing with Imperial Oil in Winnipeg, the Lakehead, Toronto and Edmonton. Then the challenge of a new company start-up brought him to Sarnia with Petrosar.
He will be sorely missed by his loving wife Alison, his daughters Betty and Susan, his son Bruce and wife Beverly White; granddaughter Alice as well as in-laws Marion Lambert, Kit English, Alan Laing and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the entire staff at Fiddick’s Nursing Home for their compassionate care, to Melanie of the VON and to the Alzheimer’s Society for their priceless support.
A notice will follow of a gathering for a celebration of Doug’s life.
Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the local Alzheimer’s Society 420 East St. N. (cheques only at the funeral home please).
Arrangements entrusted to SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Sarnia (519-542-5541).
