Fergus man indentified as trucker killed on 402

The transport truck driver killed on eastbound Highway 402 near the Airport Road exit on Thursday afternoon has been identified as Peter Byl, 59, of Fergus, Ontario.

Provincial Police says he was driving a 2005 International truck pulling a van-style trailer when, for unknown reasons, it struck another vehicle, left the highway, struck a tree in the median and caught fire. Other motorists stopped to help, but sadly were hindered by the flames.
A post mortem was conducted today at London Health Sciences – University Hospital site but a cause of death has not been confirmed at this time.

Meantime, police say the use of seatbelts likely saved the four people inside the other vehicle, a 2004 Honda Pilot which rolled several times resulting in damage to its doors and windows.
The 17 year old driver, his 14-year-old brother and both parents, all from Macomb County, Michigan, were treated for minor injuries at Bluewater Health and released last evening.
