The appearance of one of Canada's most popular chefs at a local farm dinner is propelling the issue of consuming local food for the benefit of health and the economy, say organizers.
Indeed, the dinner at the Smith Family farm on Courtright Line has already sold out, with some 75 maximum tickets sold at $50 each.
In addition to local food at the August 4 event, an appearance by celebrated author Lynn Ogryzlo (the Ontario Table) and her husband, award winning photographer Jon Ogryzlo, have contributed to the excitement.
Organizers hope Ogryzlo's ‘$10 Challenge’–promoting the spending by each family in Ontario of $10 in local food a week–will gather steam.
Lynn Ogryzio will also be signing copies of her book – the Ontario Table on Sunday, August 5th from 10 a.m.-to noon at Sarnia Sunday Farmers’ Market – Sarnia Bay Marina.
Participants include Bluewater Beef, Lena’s Lamb, Sara’s Natural Pork, Vrolyk’s Farms, Franz Turkey Farms, Williamson Farms, Gwen’s Garden Produce, Don’s Organic Garden, Smith Homestead, Noppen’s, Forest Glen Herb Farm, Purdy Fisheries, Fancy Tarts, Blackwater Coffee & Tea, Twin Pines Orchards and Cider House & Munro Honey & Meadery.
The meal is being prepared with flair by local Chefs Nathan Domitrek & Lars Boesche you will be delighted by the beautiful local meal, served in the gorgeous and welcoming setting of Smith Homestead Farm.
