Crime, Lambton County, Warwick — By Joe Burd on May 24, 2012 at 2:49 pm
Lambton OPP said a 53-year-old man remains in police custody today awaiting a bail hearing after his arrest last evening.
Police said that at around 6:30 p.m. on May 23 a unit was responding to a 911 call about a possible impaired driver in a gold Dodge pick up.
At around 6:40 p.m., an officer patrolling on Nauvoo Road came across the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop it. Despite the officer activating all emergency equipment, the driver kept driving. The vehicle continued north on Nauvoo Road and then turned east onto Brickyard Line to a private residence where it pulled in and stopped.
The male driver who police say is known to law enforcement was approached and spoken to about his driving. The officer determined that the male suspect was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and arrested him.
Subsequent breath tests showed that Frank Dortmans, 53, from Warwick Twp was over the legal limit.
Dortmans will appear in Sarnia court this morning for a bail hearing to answer to charges of Flight from Police, Impaired Driving and Being over the Legal Limit.
