Impaired driver arrests down significantly in Lambton in 2010

Lambton OPP says it is pleased that the total number of impaired driver arrests in our area is down about 30 per cent over this time last year.

"In 2009, we had a total of 153 drivers charged with Impaired Driving or Being Over the Legal Limit in Lambton County. To date in 2010, our number is at 107," comments OPP Traffic Sergeant Tim Ives. "It is encouraging that the numbers are down in Lambton, but it is still troubling that 107 people chose to drink and get behind the wheel."

He says, although the Festive RIDE campaign will end on Sunday, Lambton OPP will continue to conduct RIDE checks throughout 2011 in an effort to make our roadways the safest in the province.

"Ideally, we would like to see our impaired driver arrests at zero in 2011, says Sergeant Ives. "The officers here are not only dedicated to getting impaired drivers off the roadways, but also to targeting the drivers who are aggressive, who continue to talk on cell phones or text, or who refuse to wear seat belts or use child safety seats."
