Lambton College Firefighter Combat Challenge teams take honours

Lambton College Firefighter Combat Challenge Teams took the Fire School Division 1st place gold medals and 2nd place silver medals at the very first Ontario Scott Firefit Western Ontario Regional’s held on July 2, 2011.

With over 20 Combat Firefighter Teams competing with 100 Firefighters in the Open Firefighter Relay Event, Lambton College Firefighter Combat Team #1 battled their way to a third place bronze medal, knocking out Kingston Fire Department for the medal in the final round with a time of 109.23 seconds.

The Lambton College Firefighter Teams had to battle against 10 alumni of the Fire Science Technology program at this even, all of which are now full-time Firefighters. Their names and Fire Departments are as follows; Scott McIntyre, Steve Ford & Mike Hanley – Stratford Fire Department; Shaun Henderson & Andrew Garriock – Oakville Fire Department; Scott Minty – Bruce Nuclear Power Fire Department; Shelley Bertrand – Brampton Fire Department; Danny Folino – Hamilton Fire Department; Derrek Coccimiglio – Prince Township Fire Department and Nathan Langille – Oshawa Fire Department.

The following Lambton College Firefighters made it into the elite club of Firefighters with their individual Firefit times in the competition of over 120 Firefighters.

• 90 Second Club – Derek Buchanan – 1.38.80
• 100 Second Club – Ryan Kennedy – 143.20, Dave Barszcz – 1.43.94 and Nathan Finucci – 1.46.96.
