MP, local politicians pledge to continue to work to improve rail service
Feature, Sarnia — By JD Booth on August 21, 2012 at 11:42 amA joint news release issued by Member of Parliament Pat Davidson and Lambton County Warden Steve Arnold following a meeting with Via Rail officials as well as the federal Minister of State (Transport) last week includes a pledge by all parties to work toward improving rail service to and from Sarnia, although no one is saying a cancellation of all but one train in and out of the city will be reversed.
Rather, Davidson said in the news release that she has been assured Sarnia will continue to play a role when it comes to rail transport. In addition, concerns over access to services with those who have physical disabilities will continue.
Davidson said she has been told by Via rail that the Crown corporation is working on developing plans to connect rail service with other forms of transportation, the purpose being to maintain service even in the face of declining numbers of rail service passengers.
Warden Steve Arnold was joined at the meeting with Minister Steve Fletcher by Sarnia Councillor Dave Boushy, both of whom were in Ottawa for a meeting of the Association of Ontario Municipalities.
Via Rail officials said they would be making a trip to Sarnia in October to meet with local stakeholders

This is nothing other than Pat Davidson trying to improve her slumping approval rating. Steve Arnold is a respectable man and has always fought hard for his Community, so there is no doubt in my mind his intentions are true. I am disgusted, however to see that our MP Pat Davidson actually expects us to belief after she has openly said the cutbacks are good and that she doubts anything will change, taking advantage of the situation to prop up her own political agenda. It is very clear that much of what is happening right now in way of cutbacks, job losses and the downturn in Sarnia-Lambton’s economic standing are due to her Governments initiatives. What hypocracy to say one thing and then behind our backs do another. Shame on you Pat.
