It may be too early to identify trends when it comes to drunk driving in Lambton County, but the OPP says its R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) festive campaign nabbed eight drivers, double the number charged during last season's campaign but down from the 10 charged in 2009.
On an annual basis, Lambton OPP charged 77 impaired drivers in all of 2011, down from the 98 in all of 2010 and the 143 charged in 2009.
Sergeant Tim Ives, who handles traffic management for the OPP in Lambton County, says the numbers reflect a collective effort on behalf of the entire community.
“We will all continue to work together to make our roads impaired free and safer for all.”
The OPP says drivers should expect a R.I.D.E. checkpoint at any time of the day at any location in Lambton County.
