The Clearwater Arena will be a busy spot tonight and into the early hours of tomorrow morning.
Participants in the 10th annual Canadian Cancer Society's "Relay for Life," will be raising money for research for a cure as well as celebrating survivors and honouring those who may have succumbed to various forms of the disease.
The event, featuring 66 teams, 600 participants and 200 volunteers begins at 7 pm tonight (Friday) and continues for 12 hours until 7 am tomorrow (Saturday) morning.
"Over 1000 luminaries will be lit (tonight) at 10pm hounouring those who have survived their fight & in memory of those who have lost their fight to cancer," said Helen Cole, Lambton County manager, Canadian Cancer Society.
"These candles will light the way for our participants, survivors & volunteers for the rest of the night," she added.
At last count, online donations for the local event were nearing $75,000.
Marie Diemer, shown in the photo, has raised more than $3,000.
