Sarnia Police costs lower than average of Canada, Ontario

Per capita police costs in Sarnia are lower than Ontario or Canada, members of Sarnia's Police Services board have been told.

The data appears in the 2009 Annual Report, which the board approved at its meeting Thursday.

Board member Dick Carpani brought the comparisons to the attention of those in attendance, pointing to per capital costs of $267 for Sarnia being lower than Ontario as a whole ($294) and Canada ($344).

Police Services Chief Phil Nelson added that Sarnia has a higher population per police officer, 665 compared with 511 for Ontario and 502 for Canada.
