Obituaries — By JD Booth on May 12, 2012 at 5:55 pmSIEBERT, Victor Hugo – September 23, 1926 – May 6, 2012 – Vic Siebert, beloved husband and father, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the age of 85 years. Vic was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta and spent his childhood working on the family farm. Vic started playing guitar at the age of ten and his love for music soon led him away from the farm to start a new career as a singing disc-jockey on CFCN Radio in Calgary. In 1948, he formed a band called “The Sons of the Saddle“ with brothers Gene, Lennie and sister Lorraine, as well as married beloved wife Rae on October 2 of that same year. The band went on to tour Western Canada for several years until relocating to Winnipeg to start a weekly music variety show called “Saddle Songs“ on CBWT Channel 4. The television show ran for four years before the band relocated to Toronto in 1960. The band continued to tour North America, putting out nine albums until disbanding in 1972. Vic and his family soon relocated to Sarnia, ON where he worked for the school board until retiring in 1992, and then moved back to his roots in Calgary. Vic is survived by his sons Darryl and David, and grandchildren Jennifer, Nicole, and Tim. Vic was predeceased by his wife Rae, daughter Wendy and son Perry. Memorial Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4 Street N.W., (within the valley of Queen's Park Cemetery) on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Please forward condolences through www.hffs.com
