It was a golden weekend for the St. Christopher Cyclones boys soccer club.
They won the provincial high school “AA” crown with a 1-nil win over Guelph-Our Lady of Lourdies in Windsor on Saturday.
The Cyclones went through the tournament with seven consecutive wins, scoring 16 goals and only allowing one goal against.
Meantime, for the second consecutive year, Northern had to settle for silver medals in the Ontario girls “AAA” event, losing 6-2 to Ottawa-Louis Riel in the championship game in Hamilton.
The eventual champion were initially disqualified from the 20-team tournament by their home association after using an ineligible player, but a successful court challenge overturned that decision and allowed them to compete.
The title game was played indoors on Saturday after rain and lightning made the outdoor facility unplayable.
And at the Boys “A” tournament in Windsor, Forest-North Lambton qualified for the playoffs, but lost in the quarter-finals.
