The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton has now reached 96% of the $1.85 million goal.

We are going to the mailbox, often twice a day now, to keep on top of the campaign totals.  With what came in the mail this morning (Monday, Dec. 19), plus a few online donations over the weekend, we have hit the $1,770,000 level with just $80,000 to go to reach our objective.

We are still waiting on a number of smaller employee campaigns to wrap up, and hopefully they will reach last year’s levels and we can count them into this year’s totals.  All of our large campaigns are wrapped up and now we are counting on each and every donation.

At this point of the campaign, we don’t think in terms of a goal of $1.85 million, but rather in terms of “just $80,000 to go," as each donation brings us that much closer.

It is certainly an exciting time to be at the United Way office; with each letter that is opened, each email that arrives in our inboxes, and each time the front door opens, we are closer to reaching the target.

To date, 6,200 people have contributed to the campaign, which will run until the end of the year.

Donations can be made by calling the United Way office at 519 336-5452, or by logging on to the local United Way website atwww.theunitedway.on.ca and follow the links.  TO donate online, the whole process takes less than a minute.  We often have people come right to the office at 420 East Street North, next to Cameron’s Paint and Wallpaper, to ensure our donations arrive.  Charity donation receipts can be processed right way that can be used for tax credit purposes.

Donations are accepted anytime, but generally, any donations that arrive in January are usually credited to the next year’s campaign.
