Young writers, young writers, welcome!, Sarnia-Lambton's newest media enterprise, is reaching out to young writers whose gifting or passion (or both) involves story telling.

"As we put together the plans for this online-only source of local news, entertainment, and sports–in short, all things local–we began thinking of ways to reach out to our community in unique ways," notes J.D. Booth, Publisher and Editor of "A writing prize seemed to be a great way to do that."

While the monetary aspects of what Booth is calling the Alexander Mackenzie Prize have not been worked out in detail, he does expect that there may be organizations where aligning themselves with such a writing competition would be of long-term interest.

"I began my own career in writing and communications knowing that this was something I wanted to pursue," said Booth. "I'm quite sure there are people in every generation who are just as passionate as I was; the Alexander Mackenzie Prize is going to be a great opportunity to 'scratch that literary itch.'"

Students interested in pursuing this opportunity should e-mail J.D. Booth; interested sponsors may do the same or call Booth at 519-466-2811.
