On Wednesday October 17th, 2012 in Sacramento, California, GEORGE MICHAEL ZIGMOND of Sarnia (originally from Brantford) passed away unexpectedly at the age of 76.
Beloved husband and best friend of Carole (nee Dunsdon) for 51 years.
George is also survived by his sisters Helen Simpson (late Ron) of St. George, Mary Blagrave of England, brothers and sisters-in-law Mary and Al Middleton of Airdrie, AB, Joan and John Dunham of Burlington, and Lillian Rockefeller of Simcoe. George was loved by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Rose Zigmond, sister Madeline (Joseph) Sweeney, brothers William (Helen) Zigmond, and Frank and Joseph Zigmond.
George was a Machinist, Tool & Die Maker, and he obtained his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Western Ontario while he was teaching. He taught in the Machine Shop at SCITS for 29 years. George and Carole loved spending their winters together in Florida. He loved sports, especially archery, bowling, and golf and was a member of the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club. George was curtailed in these activities for the last 5 years because of a stroke that he had suffered in 2007. He was hopeful that the surgery in California would help his inability to swallow but he passed away 5 days after the operation. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Cremation has taken place in Sacramento, California. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
A celebration of life will be held at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club, 500 Errol Rd. W., Sarnia on Saturday, November 3, 2012, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. with tributes taking place at 1:30 p.m. Please come join the family for refreshments and to share stories and memories of George.
