One person dead after semi-tractor fire on Highway 402 westbound

Driver able to escape blaze in early Sunday morning incident

Lambton OPP say a semi-tractor truck and trailer were “fully engulfed” by the time firefighters reached the vehicle, closing the lanes of westbound 402 and resulting in the death of a passenger in the vehicle.

Police say the driver was able to escape the incident, which occurred around 3:15 a.m. Sunday.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the victim until identification is confirmed and the affected family members have been notified.

The Lambton County OPP Crime Unit, the Regional Fire Marshall’s and Coroner’s Offices are investigating the circumstances.

The entirety of the west bound lanes of the 402 Highway will remain closed between Oil Heritage Road and Mandaumin Road until approximately 4 p.m.
