Chamber’s Young Professionals merging with group to form ‘YP Connects’

Move is 'natural progression' for improving ability for even more professionals to connect

Two long-established local organizations, the Young Professionals group of the Sarnia Lambton Chamber of Commerce and Sarnia Connects, are merging, with a “launch event” planned for Thursday, January 26 at Stokes by the Bay.

Scott Palko, a Chamber member and president of CCI Studios, who played a significant role in establishing Sarnia Connects, said it was a natural progression for the two groups to merge.

“There have been ongoing discussions between the two organizations for a few years, so we are excited that we were able to make this final step happen,” said Palko. “There is a strong need for this group in our community and with the resources of the two groups coming together; the new YP Connects will be able to reach out to, and connect, even more professionals in the Sarnia-Lambton area.”

Aaron Schmidtmeyer, manager of Member Services, will continue to serve as Chamber liaison with the merged organization.

“This is a good fit for everyone connected with both YP and Sarnia Connects,” said Schmidtmeyer.

The January 26 event, which will begin at 5 p.m., is expected to be a great opportunity for all young adults in Sarnia Lambton who are interested in learning new skills and develop new business contacts and social connection. Beverages and food will be available.
