Food Summit open to public this Saturday

The Sarnia-Lambton Food Coalition is holding a Food Summit this Saturday, Nov. 20 at the Lambton Inn (part of Lambton College located on London Rd.) from 8 a.m. to noon.

The public is invited to the event, the purpose being to "declare a commitment to local, healthy food for Sarnia-Lambton, share ideas and discuss how to make this vision a reality."

Lana Smith, a public health nutritionist with the Lambton County Community Health Services department who co-chairs the Food Coalition, said in a release that having a healthier food system for Sarnia-Lambton "is key to the health of all residents and our community as a whole."

The news release said the Food Summit will focus on local food issues identified by Sarnia-Lambton residents during community discussions this fall, including:

Keynote speakers include Gord Hume, author of "The Local Food Revolution," and Katherine Pigott, co-author of "A Healthy Community Food System Plan for Waterloo Region."
