Day 1 of 150: The Griffon—first ‘ghost ship’ of the Great Lakes

Video series celebrating Canada 150 begins with story of the Griffon

It’s August 23, 1679 and the Griffon has sailed from Lake Erie, where it was built, into the Detroit River and up the St. Clair River on its way to Lake Superior.

This story, produced by Bob McCarthy, a local historian and author, appears as part of a commemorative project that will appear in Lambton Shield, with one appearing every day for 150 days.

It’s McCarthy’s personal contribution to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary.
