Hundreds gather for pancakes, parade of boats

Overcast weather didn't dampen spirits for annual Mackinac race event

Pictured early Saturday morning were, from left, Rotarians Mark Lumley and Melissa Halloran along with Lily Sweete.

An estimated crowd of 2,000 hungry spectators gathered Saturday morning for the annual Mackinac race parade of boats that motored up the St. Clair River to Lake Huron for the annual sailboat event.

Members of the Rotary Club of Sarnia once again hosted their pancake breakfast, a fundraiser in support of various club activities.

Organizers said the breakfast typically raises as much as $10,000 toward Rotary’s commitment to Bluewater Health (a $1-million pledge) and Pathways Health Centre for Children (a $600,000 pledge).
