Imperial Oil begins maintenance shutdown

Darker than normal emissions may occur

A maintenance shutdown at Imperial Oil is set to begin Friday, May 5th, and darker than normal emissions may be seen coming from the main boiler at the Sarnia site, the company said.

Scheduled maintenance work on the site’s main boiler unit and coker unit will continue for several weeks, said a company news release.

“Imperial does not expect emissions to exceed government guidelines during coker and boiler shutdown and restart,” said the release.

The company said it does not expect any negative impact on the area.

Emissions tests during past boiler outages have not exceeded health-related air quality standards, said the release.

Imperial said they have notified Ontario’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change about the shut down.

The company has a 24-hour phone line available for members of the public who want more information at 519-339-5666.
