International Symphony/Youth Ensemble seeking new members

First rehearsal of season will take place October 5 at Lochiel Kiwanis Centre

The International Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with St. Cecilia’s Conservatory of Music is welcoming young (or not so young) string players throughout the county to participate in its String Ensemble.

Violinists, violists, cellists and bassists are invited with the first rehearsal of the 2016-17 Season to take place Wednesday October 5 starting at 6:30 p.m., in the Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre, 180 North College Avenue, Sarnia. A modest tuition fee applies; however,  scholarship assistance is available, if required.

Participation in an ensemble nurtures performance skills, intonation, listening, reading, rhythm, team spirit and much more. It also provides a fun, friendly environment for young musicians to interact with their peers.

The Ensemble is under the direction of the St. Cecilia Conservatory of Stephen Collins, music director and International Symphony Orchestra violist. An accomplished violinist/violist, Collins has performed with numerous professional orchestras throughout Canada for the past 20 years. He has a solid background in teaching and is also qualified in the repair, restoration and building of stringed instruments, having spent four summers at the Banff Centre, studying with world-renowned luthiers. Collins holds a Master of Music in Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Victoria, B.C.
