Nic Swales performing tonight at Cheeky Monkey

7 p.m. to 9 p.m. performance is part of First Friday celebrations

Nic Swales, pictured performing with Band of Friends, will be playing at Cheeky Monkey tonight (Friday, April 1) as part of First Friday in downtown Sarnia.

To say that local musician and songwriter Nic Swales gets around is not an understatement.

With his roots firmly planted in Sarnia currently, he has travelled many kilometres over the last decade, honing his craft and getting his music out to the public.

His style of song writing and singing is warm and inviting with a haunting lilt to it that leaves you wanting more.

You can hear Nic playing live tonight, First Friday, at Cheeky Monkey, 130 Christina Street. N., from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Known to be one of Sarnia’s premier songsmiths, Nic relocated briefly to Halifax, Nova Scotia, back in 2007, where he independently recorded and released an acoustic EP—”Sunny River—along with a full length pop-rock album “Bohemian Summer,”

Both were recorded, engineered and produce by Dennis Field at Denmark Productions.

A total of 16 songs were recorded with a successful CD release party in Sarnia and a brief tour in support of the album that followed.

His hard work was met with much success, giving him radio play not only in his hometown, but also on the east coast on CBC Atlantic, along with other stations.

Making the year even more noteworthy, Nic won the “Runner Up” and “Suggested Artist” awards in the annual Song of the Year contest.

The following year saw Nic being featured on an episode of New Music Showcase, a TV show from Springfield, Mass., as well as having song placement on Roadtrip Nation, which is part of the American PBS network.

Once settled back in Sarnia, it didn’t take Nic long to become, once again, part of the vibrant music scene of the city.

He began hosting the Songwriters’ Circle set at the annual Sarnia Artwalk art and music festival and playing regularly at many of the downtown venues.

You can hear Nic playing live tonight, First Friday, at Cheeky Monkey, 130 Christina Street. N., from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
