Opinion: Make this New Year’s a safe one by thinking ahead

Whenever we hear about someone being nailed for driving while under the influence of alcohol, one of the questions that comes to mind is: "What were they thinking?"

The answer, of course, is that they weren't.

Not about the consequences, certainly, to life and limb, to property, or (and not as important certainly) removal of the privilege to drive on our roads.

Now, before you go out (if that's your plan), stop to think, because if alcohol enters the equation, your ability to think clearly is impaired.

That means you just might "think" you're "okay to drive" when you're not.

So think about a free ride from Sarnia Transit. Or a cab. Or making the hero of the designated driver in your group. Or stay over.

Do whatever it takes. But think now.
