Thousands from around the world are currently in attendance at Bally’s in Las Vegas for the 35th VNEA World Pool Championships. Several pool players from Sarnia traveled to the annual event and are already shaking things up. Steve Tully from Sarnia along with D.J. Mcginley from the London league showed their skills right away when they won 1st place in the Master’s/Intermediate scotch doubles. Mcginley also took 1st place in the Master men’s 8-ball singles.

Also representing Sarnia was the team known as “The Road Apples”. Steve Tully, D.J. Mcginley, Elio D’Andrea, Harvey Shognosh, & Pod Shognosh. The team all together brings several years of experience and skill to the felted table. Team representative Steve Tully said, “We won 3 matches first against 2 defending champions. Two of the three came down to last game with Elio winning that game. On the last day we had to be beat 3 times and we had to beat the team from Quebec twice. It ended up 3-2 for them . In one of the matches which was on the “LIVE” stream we came back from 60 balls down with 8 games to go.”

The team placed 2nd in the┬áMen’s Master’s open 8-ball team event earning their team a $4000 prize and trophies.

Also currently playing in a finals match is the Women’s team known as “Mixed Nuts” the team is made up of Linda Vanden Broecke, April Greenbird, and Kiersten Baines from Sarnia and also Marcy Powers from Windsor. Updates will soon follow.
