The Sarnia Arena Revitalization Fundraiser has received two donations toward a total of $491,667 being sought, says Rob Harwood, Sarnia’s director of Parks and Recreation.

The donations include $87,000 made by Bluewater Power and $10,000 being committed by Skate Sarnia, a local club that has been using the Sarnia Arena since it was opened in 1948.

The Bluewater Power funds will be applied toward LED lighting at a refurbished Sarnia Arena.

Greg Burr, who is leading the fundraising effort, is hoping these two donations will inspire others to get on board.

Donations are being accepted online at www.sarniacommunityfoundation.ca or through the City’s website: www.sarnia.ca.

Organizations wishing to discuss corporate donations are invited to contact Greg Burr at City Hall.

Federal funding approved for this project is $491,667 or 33.3% of the project. Additional funds of $491,667 will be raised through community fundraising, and $491,667 from the 2017 Council approved Parks and Recreation Capital envelope.
