The Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club enjoyed a great kickoff to its 110th anniversary year when beautiful weather arrived just in time for the first tournament of the season on the Victoria Day holiday Monday.

Fourty-four bowlers (22 teams) from around Southwestern Ontario took to the greens in the Mott Memorial Open Pairs Tournament to contest three 12-end games. When the final bowls came to rest, the top spot was claimed by longtime Sarnia bowlers Bob and Cecelia Machan. Second place went to Lyle Mix and Everett Zwiers of London, with third place going to Craig Dorey and Ron Whitehead of Sarnia.

Cathy Mott was on hand representing the Mott family to present the trophy to the winning pair.

Bob Machan was also recently honoured with the volunteer of the year award by the Ontario Lawn Bowling Association for his contributions to the game both locally and provincially in over 60 years of participating in the sport.
