The Sarnia Sting closed out a 3-in-3 week with a commanding 5-2 win over the Barrie Colts on Friday night at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena. Prior to puck drop, the Sting unveiled their 2015-16 West Division Title banner and welcomed back alumnus Kelsey Wilson for the ceremonial puck drop.
Justin Fazio earned his 7th win of the season, turning aside 28 of 30 shots faced on the night. David Ovsjannikov and Christian Propp split time between the pipes for the Colts in the loss.
Nikita Korostelev opened the scoring at 6:49 with his 10th goal of the season. Jordan Kyrou was awarded with the lone assist on the powerplay marker.
Less than three minutes later, Jason Willms responded for the Colts, tying the game at 1-1.
The Sting would score twice more before the end of the opening frame. First, McGregor would score his second of the season with Anthony Salinitri and Jeff King earning the assists. With 1:06 remaining in the first, Jaden Lindo would score his fourth as a member of the Sting after taking a pass from Kelton Hatcher.
Both Jordan Ernst and Anthony Salinitri would score in the second period for the Sting while Barrie captain, Cordell James would round out the scoring for the visitors.
It was a scoreless third period as the Sting skated away with a convincing 5-2 win over their counterparts.
The Sting hit the road next weekend for a 2-game Eastern swing, taking on the Peterborough Petes and the Oshawa Generals. The club is back at home next Friday, October 8th, taking on the Mississauga Steelheads.
