Sarnia Sting lose to Flint Firebirds

Overtime loss leaves Sting in third place in OHL West Division

The Sarnia Sting fell 3-2 in overtime on Thursday night at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena. Out-shot 34-21 in the game, the Sting are now 16-12-4-0 and remain in 3rd place in the OHL’s West Division.

Justin Fazio made 31 saves in goal for the Sting while Connor Hicks turned aside 19 of 21 in the win for Flint.

Ryan McGregor opened the scoring at 2:37 of the first period with his 9th of the campaign. Filip Helt was credited with the lone assist.

Ryan Moore responded with his 17th of the season just a few minutes later to tie the game 1-1. Moore, who is among the top 10 OHL scorers, beat Fazio on the blocker side. Henderson was given the assist.

Two minutes after Moore tied the game, Kole Sherwood scored his first of two on the night to make it 2-1 Firebirds.

Jordan Kyrou would get the equalizer for the Sting at 6:36 of the second period – tapping home the Spinozzi pass in stride. The goal was Kyrou’s 11th of the season.

After nearly 35 minutes of scoreless play, Kole Sherwood iced it for the Firebirds; scoring just 51 seconds into the extra frame. The goal was Sherwood’s 13th of the season.
