‘Save SCITS’ group starts online petition

School board will vote on closure plan in May

A group that is hoping to keep one of Sarnia’s high schools open has launched an online petition.

Save SCITS, which has a separate Website (savescits.ca), is using the GoPetition website to help muster support for its cause. The link to the petition can be found here.

Staff at the Lambton Kent District School Board has recommended to trustees that it amalgamate both St. Clair Secondary School and SCITS, starting with the school year beginning in September 2016. Under its plan, students from both schools will take classes at SCITS for one year, then move back to a renovated St. Clair facility. SCITS would be permanently closed under that plan.

The City of Sarnia has done a community impact study and recommended that St. Clair Secondary School be the one to close.

While acknowledging community opposition to the plan, staff at the LKDSB has said it remains committed to its original recommendation.
