Sting pick up rarely used player from Owen Sound, beefing up defence

Jack Kuzmyk

The Sarnia Sting acquired 17-year-old defenceman Jack Kuzmyk from the Owen Sound Attack yesterday (Thursday, Dec. 30), giving up a sixth round draft pick but beefing up the Sting defence.

"Jack is a big, physical defenceman who competes hard," commented Dave MacQueen in a Sting media release. "He also just turned 17 and fits our criteria aas we continue to move forward both in the immediate and long-term future of the program we are developing."

Although Kuzmyk was a third round draft pick in the 2009 draft, his playing time in Owen Sound was limited by the depth of the defence there, MacQueen added. "He will come in here and get a chance to play immediately."

Kuzmyk (pronounced "kews-mick"), who is originally from Bradford, Ont., is expected to be in the Sting line-up today (Friday) when they host the London Knights at the RBC Centre. Game time is 4 p.m.
